Winter Survival: Staying Warm

The Sun is back, but “King Winter” is not about to loosen his grip on Norway just yet. This February has been one of the coldest in decades, so I thought this is a good time to share some personal experience on how to deal with the cold weather when you venture outside.
Dress up!
The obvious [...]

I’ll Be Away

‘I’ll be away’ is starting to be a pain.  I’m organising a festival at the moment and to make a festival happen you need people, lots of people.  However, this time of year is the ‘I’ll be away’ season.  Spain, Brazil, Thailand, Africa, Sweden and France are just some of the places my friends, family [...]

Snow Angels

Lilu wants to join Pappa in making snow angels.  She dives face first into the snow – doh!

Not to worry, she has three more months of snow to get it right.

And licking off the snow is just as fun!

Changing Gears – Literally

The way I was taught to know when to change gears when driving a car is to feel the car.  I guess it’s about feeling the vibrations from the revs.  Aussies tend to have beastie cars so it is pretty easy to feel the engine.  If you can’t feel then you hear the change via [...]

What To Do In Norway When You’re Bored

Sometimes the cold makes you do crazy things.  Can you guess what I’m doing?  Listen to the sound.

Still can’t pick it?  Have a look at the video.

var s1 = new SWFObject(“http://mylittlenorway.com/wp-content/plugins/simple-flash-video/mediaplayer.swf”,”sfvideo1″,”400″,”250″,”9.0.115″);

s1.addParam(“allowscriptaccess”,”always”);
s1.addParam(“wmode”,”transparent”);
s1.addVariable(“file”, “/video/sound-vid.MP4″);
s1.addVariable(“config”, “http://mylittlenorway.com/wp-content/plugins/simple-flash-video/config.xml”);
s1.addVariable(“autostart”, “false”);
s1.addVariable(“image”, “/video/sound-vid.jpg”);
s1.addVariable(“width”, “400″);
s1.addVariable(“height”, “250″);
s1.addVariable(“title”, “What To Do In Norway When You’re Bored”);
s1.write(“video1″);

Who knew you could do that on a soccer field?

Oslo Dressed for Christmas

It doesn’t really snow in Oslo for Christmas and the city is too far down the northern hemisphere to get the Northern Lights.  So to give some Christmas cheer to the Osloenser in the dark season the city burns enough juice to make sure the astronauts can find Norway.
Karl Johans Gate is one of the [...]

Norwegian Christmas Decorating

Decorating the whole house for Christmas is a big tradition in Norway.  It is certainly worth all the fuss as it not only creates a great atmosphere but your work will be up during the whole Christmas season – from December til mid-January.  (That’s better than displaying your artwork at most galleries!)  No table is [...]

Visiting the Sheep

Every time we visit Alta I make sure to visit all the farm animals.  In the Winter the sheep are kept in the barn which means you can get up close and personal.  I always take Moose with me.  Being a city girl I get as skittish as the sheep do sometimes (I think the [...]
