The Norwegian Alphabet
The Norwegian Alphabet has 29 characters. It incorporates the standard Latin Alphabet with 26 characters, though not all of the sounds and characters are used in the modern Norwegian language. Cc, Qq, Ww, Xx & Zz where used in Medieval times, however today they are only used for names and international words. The Norwegian Alphabet also contains Ææ, Øø & Åå. These are vowels and are used in all Scandinavian languages (though not written the same).

Learning Book Language Norwegian is a spoken language that cannot be pinned down.  Every region, every city, every town and even just across the river, has a different dialect.  No one dialect is wrong or right, but adds to the tradition of Norwegian. A grapheme, or character, is the smallest unit of a writing language. Alphabet symbols or letters, Chinese characters, numbers and punctuation marks are all graphemes. Single and multiple graphemes, know as digraphs and trigraphs, represent one phoneme or fundamental sound such as ‘rs’ and ‘skj’.
