Waiting for the Sun
Officially the sun rises above the horizon in Alta about the 15th of January. But Alta is surrounded by mountains and so it isn’t for a couple more days, about the 21st or 22nd of January depending on the year, until the city can see the sun – cloudy skies can push the date back. But our farm is in a valley surrounded by forests and mountains and so it isn’t for a couple more days after that when we can see the sun – and cloudy skies can push the date back.
Everyday I have been looking out my window around 11am to see if we would see the sun that day. This week we have had good snowfall and that means cloudy weather. It wasn’t until today, in clear skies, that the sun first shone on the farm.
I saw the sun for the first time this year on my hand. It didn’t feel warm as the air was very crisp, probably around -8C, but my hand glowed.
Starting with blues, then yellows and fading to oranges – It didn’t last very long but I was there to see it and it was beautiful. Today we had a real day and tomorrow we will have another one.

.But I was promised to see sun starting only from 4th of january, if lucky to have no clouds (or rain, that has been recently pouring stronger than in autumn). And this is because of the same ‘cute’ mountain that covers the horizon
