Elsterparken is a forest to the west of Trondheim city.  It has panoramic views of the city and Trondheimsfjorden (The Trondheim fjord) with Munkholmen in the distance.

Along the tracks you will find seats set for the best views and you will get to say ‘Hei!’ to many Norwegians who exercise along the tracks.  The forrest is on Geitfjellet (The Goat Mountain) and so the tracks are a little more adventurous than for a casual walker.  We visited during early Autumn when the air was very crisp.  During winter the walking tracks turn into skiing tracks and during Spring is can get a little muddy.

Visiting Elsterparken was a perfect break from all the touristy spots we were seeing on our Trondheim visit.

For Tourists:
There are several nice parks and forests surrounding Trondheim that you can visit via tram or bus.  Elsterparken is one of the closest and you can just pop along for a packed lunch and some great views before continuing your urban sightseeing of Trondheim.
