Julekake or Julebrød
This year I was on a mission to see the difference between julekake…
…and julebrød.
In past years they seemed to be the same to me but I never had them both at the same time to make a proper claim. So, this year I bought both a julekake and a julebrød together.
And the difference…
- just their shape!
We had so much jule bread and cake that we had french toast for three days.
Yep – they tasted the same too.

Even though the males are called bulls and the females cows, the muskoxen are more closely related to sheep than cattle. Make no mistake, though – this is not your average cuddly ba-ba-blacksheep! A grown animal can be 2,5 m long and weigh up to 400 kgs, and their long curved horns mean business.
Norwegians are starting to get adventurous with cooking on the barbie.
The darkest day of the year is known as winter solstice.

I’ve been researching Norwegian food for a culinary guidebook I’m writing. What I found, too, is that Julebrød and Julekake are names for the same thing. Have you ever made it yourself? I assume it would be MUCH better, and the cardamom scent would be lovelier.
Now that you’ve been in Troms county for awhile, what are your favorite dishes of the region?
it’s all the same but home-made is the best!
The difference is… the price!
