This is one of our family favorites. We only ever have it in blueberry season which makes it even more special and you certainly can’t beat collecting your own wild blueberries. It makes the whole recipe taste that much better. (But, of course, shop bought ones can work just fine.)
We use a regular home-made waffle batter, pour it into the waffle iron and then sprinkle some berries on top. The wild blueberries here in Norway aren’t actually real blueberries but ‘bilberries’ (in English)… so they are usually smaller and work better for cooking in a waffle iron. The berries melt and can go a little chewy (yum!).
We top our waffles with syrup (usually maple), cream and more berries. They are really good with bacon and pear too.
