Pepperkaker Christmas Tree
Kransekaker pyramids are wonderful eatable decorations for any Norwegian Christmas table but unfortunately some of us don’t have the luxury of kransekaker dough readily available to us in the stores (or the time to make the dough ourselves). So… why not make your own pepperkaker Christmas tree?
To make, I free-hand cut the pepperkaker dough into triangles into ascending sizes before cooking. When the pepperkaker was cooked and cooled, I stacked them on top of each other using icing as glue. I left the pyramid to set for an hour. I then decorated it with more icing and also used it to stick on smarties and lollies. That easy. Now we have a home-made Christmas decoration that will satisfy the best of ‘nibbles’.

Nisse parties happen in many kindergartens, primary schools, church and community groups in Norway. They are a casual celebration of the julenisse (Christmas elf) tradition especially for children (but the big kids love them too).
Aursfjord is a branch of Malangen Fjord in Balsfjord.
Today herding reindeer is synonymous with the Sami culture. It is recently thought that the Vikings were the first people to herd reindeer.
The sun never goes down during this season but the mountains to the East are so high that the sun still has to raise above them in the morning hours and an artificial dawn-effect wakes the city.
This is awesome! Kransekaker always reminds me of a tree anyway. I was thinking about making them this year and then realized I wouldn’t likely find the rings quick enough. This is a very festive alternative!
Hello from the States! I came across your blog and I am totally in love with it! I am a partial Norwegian, my father’s side is descended from the Vatterud farm north of Oslo. Growing up, I always made lefse and krumkake with my aunt, but I am really liking the pepperkaker tree. How cool! I plan on featuring your blog on mine tomorrow…I’m doing a week of “what makes the spirit of Christmas.” I will definitely have to share this site with my family. Cheers to you both and thank you for sharing all your pictures and stories!
