Kayaking Tromsø

A popular Summer activity in Norway is kayaking. The coast of Norway is dotted with thousands of little islands making the perfect conditions for a smooth paddle. Tromsø is a particularly good place for a casual kayak. Because of the midnight sun, any time of day invites kayakers out into the water. We often sit on our favourite jetty in the midnight sun and wave to the kayakers paddling by. It’s way more calming than watching a fish tank ;D

Decorating Easter eggs is a big tradition in Norway.
A lonely mountain on the edge of the Finnmark Plateau.
On any celebration table in Norway you can always find a Norwegian layer cake (bløtkake). What better way to celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day than with fresh cream, wild berries and a little bit of sponge in between.
Norwegian dogs were born with a purpose. They were bred to be hunting dogs, herding dogs and farm dogs.
What great exercise that would be too. Such a lovely view. I can just imagine being there and how cool that with the midnight sun you can do this at any time.
That sure sounds beautiful.
So much fun to read about Norwegian culture from an outsiders point of view (and I almost feel like on myself by now). I esepcially love your having a baby posts as I’ve had both my kids here and was too young to really remember much of childrearing culture in Norway. So thanks for giving me a taste of home.
Hi btw, I’m Linda and I’m a Norwegian living in Canada (7 years this summer) and I stumbled across your blog and gotta say I really love it!
Love your website! Thanks for all you post!!

Try contacting Bjørns Kajakk in Tromsø. They provide kayak rental and courses, although I’m not so sure about guided tours. Most kayak rental places and clubs only hire to people who have a certified course in kayak safety. Maybe if you take a course here a guided tour could be part of it?
you can also get in touch with the owner of http://www.alfafritid.no/ (contact info on the right hand side). Or you might get in touch with the kayaking club in tromsø http://tromsohavpadling.no/ in the hopes of getting in touch with a friendly enthusiast. If i’m not mistaken, kayak rental for a member of the club runs at 50NOK or something in that area, so if you butter someone up a bit first you might get away with spending next to nothing.
keep in mind that hurtigrutas stay in tromsø, and any other port for that matter, follows a thight scedule so having everything planned and mapped out well in advance will be seriously helpfull and prevent you from having to see the aft of the ship get smaller as you wave franticly at it from the docs.
