Introducing Lil’ Red
Roan Magnus was born August 2009, weighing 4.25 kilograms and measuring 53cm.
Roan (r-r-roo-ahn) means ‘tree with red berries‘ or Rowan Tree. The Rowan tree provides food for the birds during the long, cold winters.
Magnus, after Farfar, means ‘great‘ in Latin and is a royal name in Norway. It was a popular name during the Viking Age and meant ‘fighter/strong warrior’ or more correctly ‘house of power/might’.

Decorating Easter eggs is a big tradition in Norway.
Towards the water in a beautiful pocket of leafy oak trees is the Byneset Church.
Even though the males are called bulls and the females cows, the muskoxen are more closely related to sheep than cattle. Make no mistake, though – this is not your average cuddly ba-ba-blacksheep! A grown animal can be 2,5 m long and weigh up to 400 kgs, and their long curved horns mean business.
The Bunad with molded wool, embroidered cuffs and silver stitching is still not complete without its silverwork.
Nisse parties happen in many kindergartens, primary schools, church and community groups in Norway. They are a casual celebration of the julenisse (Christmas elf) tradition especially for children (but the big kids love them too).
